First Annual Broadwater County-Wide Yard Sale a Huge Success
The First annual Broadwater County-Wide Yard Sale took place last Saturday, June 17th. Even though the weather appeared to be questionable early, it turned out to be a beautiful day for those that ventured out. Forty-seven people registered their address on the yard sale map before the cut-off date of the Monday before the event. We had many more people decide to join us the week of the event too, and there were at least five sellers on Front Street at the flea-market area that welcomed some heavy traffic.
In addition to the many yard sales that were held that day, many of the town retail stores and restaurants participated. Judy Wright’s Trading Post, Shirley Wilson’s Creative Closet, the Townsend Drug Store and Missouri River Traders all had sidewalk sales. The Betsy Kitchen had a table outside (which was decorated beautifully) and several people took advantage of the beautiful weather to dine outside.
In addition to the many individuals participating in the event we had several organizations, including the BHC Auxilliary and the Lutheran Church, scheduled their annual sales events to participate in the County-Wide Yard Sale.
The feedback so far is that the County-Wide Yard Sale was a big success. Shoppers traveled from Helena, Butte, Bozeman and Livingston to Broadwater County for the event. There was a lot of activity at the stores and restaurants in town on Broadway and Front Street.
Participation in the event from people in the county outside of the immediate Townsend area appears to have been slow and we didn’t get as many participants to the yard sales out of town as hoped for; but will work to resolve that issue for next annual yard sale.
The County-Wide Yard Sale was sponsored by Missouri Valley Marketing (MVM), BCDC, Townsend Rotary Club and the Broadwater Reporter. The committee that organized the event was comprised of many members of MVM, Rotary, BCDC, the Lutheran Church, as well as individuals that were interested in promoting Broadwater County. Ernie Forrey, Pam Sample, Brian Obert, Pat Plantenberg, Ross Johnson, Jenni Bonzer and LaRinda Spencer all contributed a lot of time and effort to the event.
Many organizations in Townsend organize a lot of great events for the Townsend and Broadwater County communities. However, this event was a true COMMUNITY event – not only was it a great event FOR the community, it was an event BY the community. There would not have been an event without the participation of the many residents, businesses and organizations.
